On June 7th of 2008, Hillary Clinton gave a speech conceding the Democratic nomination for President to Barack Obama. It was a powerful speech, passionate in acknowledging her supporters and the importance of unifying behind Barack Obama.

Although we weren't able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it's got about 18 million cracks in it, and the light is shining through like never before, filling us all with the hope and the sure knowledge that the path will be a little easier next time.

Eight years later, to the day, Hillary Clinton will cross the delegate threshold and claim the nomination that eluded her back then.

As some of you may know (and anyone who looks back over my posting history can confirm) I was not a fan or supporter of Hillary Clinton in 2008. I was a Draft Obama volunteer as early as December of 2005. I am sure I posted pretty negative things about Hillary here. I’ve certainly see some come up on my ‘memories’ on Facebook. I advocated for Barack Obama to run, win the nomination, and win the Presidency for nearly three years before it became a reality.

In the end, though, that pales compared to the eight years I’ve spent hoping Hillary would be my next President. You see, her speech on June 7th made me look past the negatives I saw during the heat of the campaign and realize what an astounding woman she is, what a good choice we had back then.

I love President Obama, and I am proud that I helped get him elected. I would not trade him for the world. I’m just glad that Hillary is taking another crack at this. The prospect of having a Democratic President who can build on the successes of another Democrat rather than cleaning up the piles of elephant shit a Republican has left behind.

Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about your excitement. We’re about to make history. To those of you who supported Hillary in 2008, thank you for those 18 million cracks in the ceiling. We’re about to bust right through it.

Her next speech on June 7th will be another one for the history books.
