Here in Wisconsin, I’m pretty pumped that next year our state will be represented in the US Senate by senior Senator Tammy Baldwin and junior Senator Russ Feingold (we’re going to make sure of it).
That is an incredible team of progressive champions… and it got me thinking about the rest of the Senate. Obviously once Russ returns Wisconsin will have a shot at the top spot, but what state currently has the best Senators?
I think we can stipulate that only states with two Democrats or Independents who caucus with the Democrats should be in the running. That leaves us with sixteen options:
California:
Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein
Connecticut:
Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy
Delaware:
Tom Carper and Chris Coons
Hawaii
Brian Schatz and Mazie Hirono
Maryland:
Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin
Massachusetts
Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey
Michigan
Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters
Minnesota
Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken
New Jersey
Bob Menendez and Cory Booker
New Mexico
Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich
New York
Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand
Oregon
Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley
Rhode Island
Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse
Vermont
Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders
Virginia
Mark Warner and Tim Kaine
Washington
Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell
