When I saw a diary about how grumpy Hillary supporters are, I laughed it off. What nonsense, right?
And then I came back to see it at the very top of the rec list and hanging on for quite a while. I checked, and I hadn’t switched to an alternate universe in some kind of freak accident involving tin foil and a microwave. There was no snark tag on the diary, and the diarist is a pretty well known very, ahem, VOCAL supporter of Senator Sanders.
It wasn’t until I checked my irony meter and saw that it had exploded that I realized what was going on.
Hillary supporters- I don’t feel grumpy, do you?
Sure, I get a bit peeved when the rec list is littered with garbage (dare I say GRUMPY?) diaries attacking Hillary Clinton. In the real world, though, the good news keeps rolling in for Clinton. Things can change, but there’s no way to deny that right now she’s winning, and winning big. Besides the delegate rich Vermont (see what happens when my irony meter is busted?), there is not a single state where she is not competitive or leading (usually by huge margins). She is well positioned to potentially sweep the February contests and go into favorable territory on Super Tuesday with the wind at her back.
She’s won both debates comfortably, and was by far the best in Maddow’s candidate forum. She’s survived mud flung at her from the right and the left and emerged stronger after every battle. She has the enthusiastic support of the base of the Democratic party, and is in a great place to become the 45th President of the United States. Her candidacy is inspiring and historic.
So why am I being called grumpy?
Here’s what we need to realize, at least the members of the reality-based community. The quality of diaries on the rec list and Clinton’s standing in the race are inversely related. Even if you never looked at a poll, watched a debate, or followed the news you could tell when Hillary was doing well in the race by the number of conspiracy theories, right wing talking points, and outright deceptive smears you see on the rec list.
So take heart, fellow grumps! Every time you see that the Sanders supporters have given over to their worst instincts and recced the diaries of, well, you know who they are, remember that is a sign that we’re getting closer and closer to an historic victory and Madame President Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The worse things see here, the better they are in the real world. The grumpier the rec list appears, the jollier we can all be.
