Bernie has gotten his long awaited first endorsement from one of his colleagues in the Senate!

Unfortunately, it comes from the infamous Tom Cotton (R-AR). Cotton, most famous for his attempts to undermine American foreign policy by communicating with the Iranian government to try to defeat the deal to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions and undercut the President’s credibility on the world stage. More recently, Cotton built on his reputation when it was discovered that he was manipulated by a foreign government and paid off for those actions.

Cotton, an extremely conservative Senator serving his first term, really wants to see Bernie Sanders as the Democratic nominee for President.

The Republican senator appeared on AETN's show "Arkansas Week."

It was there he gave the endorsement for Vermont's senator.

"I, for many months, I’ve been strongly in favor of Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary,” Cotton said with a big smile.

Perhaps this endorsement really does demonstrate the crossover appeal of Bernie Sanders even to the most conservative of Republicans.

It is unclear at this point if Cotton’s endorsement is worth five points in the Fivethirtyeight endorsement tracker.

While Cotton didn’t give a clear rationale why he supports Bernie Sanders, it is clear that this Republican really, really would like Bernie Sanders to be on the top of the Democratic ticket next fall.

This endorsement may signal a watershed moment as, to this point, none of Bernie’s colleagues, those who know him the best and have worked with him during his past nine years in the Senate, have endorsed his candidacy. While Hillary Clinton may have the support of progressive heroes like Sherrod Brown, perhaps Sanders will be able to draw the support of even more Republicans who really, really, really hope he is the Democratic nominee for President.
